On the north coast of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia’s most important harbor, both the coast road and promenade are being redesigned on behalf of JEDDAH MUNICIPALITY. In this project, local experts from BERNARD Group were asked to carry out local site supervision.
In order to improve the quality of life of the residents and promote tourism in the region, numerous construction measures will be implemented until August 2017. The 4.2 km long coast will be transformed into a modern recreation center by reclaiming 400,000 m² of land. The 15 m wide promenade, which is paved with granite tiles, will be upgraded with new street furniture, small kiosks and public toilets, supplemented by three new beach embankments and a redesigned beach plain of 20,000 m2.
The old Corniche Road will be upgraded to dual three lanes to manage the high traffic volumes that have been predicted. A total of 1,700 parking spaces will be created on both sides of the coast road. Between the coast road and the embankment, 300,000 m2 of green space are planned to be created, requiring the installation of a separate pumping and irrigation system. In addition, a water taxi station will be built as part of the city’s subway project, and a special embankment for fishing boats will be constructed.
